CMC Program Itinerary

Overview

CMC Corporate Retreat Program Itinerary

The CMC Program is a 6-mounth long committment to your personal development and perfomance excellence.

Preparing

The Corporate Mountain Culture journey begins before you ever set foot in the mountains.

Before the trip, you receive our Development Reflection Workbook that provides an opportunity for introspection. This task helps prime you for the richest CMC experience possible. As you complete the workbook, you explore a number of issues important to your growth as a leader and focus your attention on the outcomes you most want to achieve.

Prior to traveling to the mountains, you engage in an in-depth initial development conversation with a member of the psychologist team. This discussion sets your goals, maps your strengths and establishes the groundwork for further discussions.

In preparation for this mountain expedition, participants are encouraged to engage in fitness training to ensure their physical conditioning meets minimum requirements.

Expedition Itinerary

Welcome to the Kootenays

Participants arrive the day before the CMC expedition departure. They are greeted by CMC staff at Castlegar Airport and shuttled through the mountains via Nelson to Kaslo. A short stop in Nelson provides the opportunity for a gear check and last minute purchases of supplies that will not be available anywhere else.

The journey to Kaslo gives you your first glances of the unique region of the West Kootenays. In Kaslo, you are accommodated at the newly constructed Kaslo Bay Resort overlooking Kootenay Lake. You attend a welcoming dinner and an evening session to meet other participants and CMC staff, review the CMC program and complete a final equipment check.

Day One - Arriving in the Mountains.

After a restful sleep in Kaslo, participants enjoy a hardy breakfast and then rendezvous at the transportation staging area. Groups of participants are flown by helicopter over mountains and across spectacular terrain to the Mount Carlyle Lodge. This day is spent settling in and getting acclimatized to this amazing location. Participants are taken on a several hour hike during which key concepts and principles of mountain living are shared by the psychological and mountain guiding staff. Social time and a gourmet dinner cap off this first day in the CMC experience.

Day Two - Land Marking & Orienteering

This day is dedicated to learning the skills of land marking and orienteering both in the mountains and within ourselves. The mountain classroom provides a wealth of learning opportunities to expand leadership practices. Participants learn important skills to help navigate safely through the alpine environment and discover ways to apply these skills in their personal work lives. During this day, participants encounter some of the magic and power of the mountains as they reflect upon team pursuits and solitary activities. Participants enjoy the comforts of a wood-burning sauna, share a campfire and star gaze as ways to end this day.

Day Three - Eco-Expedition

Participants rise early to greet the morning and prepare to use the skills acquired over the first two days. This day challenges participants with an eco-adventure that takes teams on a day-long race through the mountain terrain. Using maps, compasses and wits alone, teams of participants forge their way to locate a series of designated checkpoints, trying to beat the clock and other participants to the finish.

While other programs rely on team simulations to promote development, CMC offer real team adventure as a way to gain personal insights and grow as leaders. This incredible day can be physically demanding, but it is rich in memorable and applicable learning experiences. Like other CMC days, this one concludes with a welcomed gourmet meal, time to socialize, and a chance to soothe worn muscles in the sauna before a well-deserved night of sleep.

Day Four - Summit Ascent

The fourth CMC day is less structured than others and allows participants a chance to benefit from all of the resources provided. Surrounded by the mountains cradling the Mount Carlyle Lodge, participants are given a chance to ascent the summit of their choosing. Some select steep challenging climbs while others prefer more gentle and accessible peaks. Still others elect to stay closer to the lodge and work on ascending more personal inner summits.

With so many CMC staff present, we have the flexibility to accommodate and tailor the program to the specific needs and preferences of the CMC participants. Whatever summit participants elect to tackle, this day concludes with a celebratory dinner that marks accomplishments and honours participant efforts.

Day Five - Returning

CMC Corporate Retreat Program Itinerary

The last day in the mountains is used to prepare to depart and reflect on the experiences of the last five days. Care is taken to ensure that the most significant developments for each participant are captured and recorded. In addition, the program provides opportunities to explore how to implement these insights back in the workplace. With backpacks readied, CMC participants take their leave from the Mount Carlyle Lodge and are guided out of the majestic mountain peaks to the trailhead below. Here, they are met by waiting vehicles and transported to the town of Nelson to spend the night or are taken to the airport in Castlegar for homeward flights.

Integrating CMC Experience

CMC Corporate Retreat Program Itinerary

You take your Corporate Mountain Culture experience home and apply what you have learned over the week to your daily life.

We assist you in integrating your CMC discoveries. Over the course of the next four months, you receive two post-expedition coaching discussions with a member of the psychologist staff. These conversations monitor, promote and enhance the process of implementing CMC insights.

These conversations help you link and connect your mountain learning with your work and family contexts. Through these sessions, you have the opportunity to chart ways you can change your routine practices and use CMC lessons to improve your performance and navigate the challenges ahead.

Additional support and consultation provided by the psychologist staff is available to CMC alumni on a fee for service basis.
